Christmas decoration

For an arts & craft church fund raiser, I had planned to take glass blocks (8x8x4), drill one 1/2" hole in the sides and insert a 25 light string of Christmas lights. Then put a ribbon around each block and a bow on top. The blocks then look like a Christmas package, but you plug in the end of the light string and you have a nice lighted Christmas decoration. I have seen one and really liked it. The frosted blocks work the best because they diffuse the lights inside. Your acrylic blocks look like they may work even better. Lighter weight and much easier to drill would make them a better choice. Assuming they are hollow. What do you think?

Hi Jack,

We have had a growing interest from the arts and crafts community. Your Idea is unique yet similar to other one’s we've heard. We see no problem with your idea, I am sure it will look great. All of our blocks are hollow in the and come frosted wave or clear wave, the frosted block is frosted on one side and clear wave on the other. If this works for you then I'm certain it will be a great X-Mas gift.

How did you do with drilling a hold in the block? did the light show through? I want to use these at a wedding for a centerpiece. Each block will hold an individual cake...

Hello Peggy,
You can use a regular drill bit to make a hole in the blocks. The blocks have been used for many events which display products and also as lighting fixtures. If you have the time you may want to get a sample block to test.

Hi everyone!
I placed my order for a case of 24 Acrylic Blocks today. I am planning to use them for the Gift Package look as well! We bought the Glass Blocks and had alot of trouble with Breakage! They are too expensive to lose due to Breakage..So when I found this company, I was in 7th Heaven!
Has anyone tried the Snowman look yet? Very easy..feel free to e-mail me and I will send the picture for it. please include in your topic.."SNOWMAN"
Happy crafting to all! GLQ36@aol.com

For us hobbyists, is there any chance that the string of small Christmas lights that are used in the glass blocks will discolor the acrylic ones from the heat inside?
They don't get hot, but can get warm when the lights are on for extended periods like night lights?

Good Question Mona,

The blocks have been tested for discolor in 10yr accelerated test in Arizona. No discoloration was visible. If there is anyone out there that has used the blocks with lighting, please let us know if you have notice any discolor near the light source.

I would like to see the snowman used with the acrylic blocks. I presently use the glass, but recently saw the acrylic which looked just as nice gift wrapped. Am concerned about the heat from the lights.

Hello,

If you go to our picture link you will see a snowman with light.

We have been selling the blocks to crafters for 3 years know with not problems with xmas light usage. This might not work for every one, but most have been able to use our product without incident.

If the blocks are not opened at either end, is it difficult to open one end - i.e. oval shaped to put stuff in? Also even if they are wavy, etc is the outside smooth? Have some ideas but need these questions answered first. Thank you very much!

Excellent questions:

It is not difficult to drill a hole to the blocks. Simple use a regular drill bit.

All the blocks are smooth outside the blocks
