I have a 6 foot rectangular whirlpool tub also used as a shower, surrounded by walls on 3 sides. I would like to put a standard 5 foot glass sliding shower door on the tub. I would like to use either a 12" block wall on one side of the shower door as a frame or have a 6" block wall on each side for the frame of the shower door. The block wall would be about 4 feet high to frame the shower door. Can this be done? How would the block wall be fastened to the wall? Can a wall be built just 1 tile thick or 2 tiles thick?

Hi Micky,

Yes, We can build a partition 10" x 50" high, using the 8"x8" x 3" thick acrylic blocks. Installation is easy with our flat cap accessories. Simply attach the flat cap to the wall and the base, then snap the panel on to the flat cap and finish the exposed side with the remaining flat cap and your done.

I am designing a new bathroom install and plan on using a 6"x2" block panel (will order soon). My question: Can a glass shower door attach to the metal frame of the panel? The configuration of the shower does not allow for a 'walk in' type and will require a door. Normally, the shower walls would have a rough in opening which the frame of the shower doors (considering seamless glass shower doors)would attach to.

Thanks in advance for your response. I too am thrilled to find an alternative to glass blocks!!!

Yes, you could attach a shower door to the end of the panel. The panel when finished will have an aluminum flat cap that can be used to attach a light glass door or a latch. Before installing your door installer should secure panel for proper stability.

I have a 56" wide shower enclosure and would like to add doors without it costing a fortune due to it's size. I was thinking about installing a glass block panel or maybe 2 and adding the door to it or them. If this can be done, would I place the glass block on the lip of the enclosure or on the floor?. Thanks, Marie

Hello Marie,

We have a panel that measures 26"w x 62"h that can be installed right in your shower opening. We would supply you with a flat cap that would be secured to the floor and wall. The Panel would then be placed over the flat cap and snap into place. Once, in place you will need to use some silicon caulking between the tub and the floor, between the flat caps and panel and you are done.

I would like to place an 8x8 3" partition between a whirlpool tub and shower that is separated by a three foot high base, but the base and the walls covering surrounding the shower and tub have 2x2" tile on it. My question is how do I mount the flat cap to the tile or do I drill into it.

Good Question,

In order to attach the panel(s) you will need to secure the flat cap to the wall and base. Whether you use screws to fasten it down or adhesive makes not difference. The more secure your panel can be the better.
Once you have secured to your service you will need to use some water resistant caulking to apply between the flat cap and the tile.

I have a double bypass set of shower doors on a shower (no tub). I want to replace the doors with the blocks and leave an opening at the back end of the shower for entry/exit (no door). The shower is built out of 3"white tile and the ledge where the current shower doors sit is 5" wide across the top and covered with the same white tile, so I have a level surface to install the shower wall. Can these blocks be used in this application and is it simply enough a lay person could do it?
