1 BR convert to 2BR: window only in one half

Hi!
i need to divide my 1BR into 2BR and the only way to create the right amount of space is to keep the only window on one side of the divide. I'd like to imbed either stationary block or an awning style window in the center or top of the wall to allow light and/or airflow when necessary into the other room.
How is the soundproofing quality of the glass block (awning when closed)?
Have you seen this done before?
Would your recommendation be for block in the center of the wall or along the top using a few awnings?
